Thursday Throwback

There’s not much that chocolate cake can’t fix or cake in general as a matter of fact. A day-long headache. A long day at work. A date gone wrong. A rainy cold day. Especially when it’s an easy box cake slathered on with some canned chocolate icing. The kind you’d find at a kid’s 5th birthday party or at a restaurant displayed in a glass case. This is a picture of me as a tyke on my 2nd Birthday party. Look how thrilled I am over that cake!

Thoughts On Tuesday

It’s Tuesday morning and most of you are probably sitting at your desk at work sipping on your second cup of coffee trying to get motivated today.  Last night you probably went home and did the same routine that you have been doing for the past few months, maybe even years. I haven’t posted a motivational quote since my “Forget about Money, Be Happy” quote and these two topics go hand in hand.

I have decided that this week I am devoted to jumping out of bed each morning, getting the day started off right and making something happen! I think that this is something we can all work on wether at our job or just in our day to day routine. Usually if you wake up thinking you are going to have a great day it will normally end up being that exact way.

We all have dreams but the majority of us aren’t daring enough to go out and make them happen.  Dreams don’t work unless you take chances and step out of your comfort zone. You have to be willing to take risks and start each day like you will make a difference in whatever path you have chosen to take in life. It’s so true that your future really does belong to you! It won’t happen someday, if you don’t make it happen now.

Jambalaya , Yes Please!

Happy Monday! I can’t believe the weekend is already over and we are starting up our last week in February! I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend and are looking forward to another great week! My weekend was filled with workout classes, a trip to french lick and some New Orleans inspired meals!

Ever since our trip to New Orleans last March I have been hooked on cajun food! If you are not into cooking and want to try some cheap cajun cuisine in Indianapolis check out my most recent post about our favorite place in Broadripple, Yats better yet try out this amazing jambalaya recipe we made over the weekend!

1 Package of Andouille sausages

Bell pepper (green or red or both)—chopped into 1/2″ chunks

½ cup chopped green onions

Jalapeño peppers, thin sliced

2 cups dry rice

1 1/2 cup cheddar cheese

Tony Chachere’s Creole  Seasoning—about 1 tablespoon

Begin by slicing the sausage into 1″ sections or thinner if you prefer. Next, spray a frying pan with some Pam, and bring to medium high heat. Add the veggies, and the sausage to the pan. Stir and allow the vegetable to become well sautéed, evidenced by brown along the edges of both the veggies and the sausage will indicate that it is finished.

While you are doing this step start a pan of bowling water and begin cooking the rice until tender. Once the frying pan is sautéed and the rice is cooked combine all ingredients in the pan along with your spices, jalapeños and cheese. Once all of the ingredients are combined we normally top it off with siracha sauce…yum!

My weekend according to my iPhone!

From Indianapolis, a 2-1/2-hour drive over curving two-lane roads through farms and small towns brought us to the French Lick Resort Saturday evening. It was a great experience! I wish we could’ve spent all weekend here. The hotel had so much to offer with a 24 hour shuttle service transporting guests between the French Lick Resort and West Baden, three golf courses, two high-end spas, casino, horse stable, and indoor sports complex with a bowling alley, swimming pools, indoor mini golf, and a nearby water park to attract families with children. Our night was spent at the roulette table, checking out the West Baden Hotel, exploring the shops & sipping on some cocktails!

Warby Parker Spring Collection

I have been meaning to do a Warby Parker post for awhile now and figured this is the perfect time to tell ya’all  about it since they have finally released their new 2014 Spring Collection.

So I’ve never actually ordered a pair of Warby Parker glasses myself, because I don’t need to wear any type of contacts or glasses. The thing is though, their vintage styles and timeless design have given me the urge to get the frames without any prescription and I’ve been thinking perhaps a non-prescription pair of sunglasses is the perfect duo.

The most convenient part of it all is that you can choose 5 pairs to be sent to your house! They give you 5 days to try them on and decide which ones look the best!image

One of the best things about Warby Parker is their “buy a pair, give a pair” model. They’ve partnered with non-profits to ensure that for every pair of glasses sold, a pair is distributed to someone in need. To date, they have donated over 500,000 glasses. I guess I will be adding these to my Spring wish list as well!image

Pastels & Florals

Happy Saturday everyone! We are on our way to French Lick Resort & Casino this evening for a fun night with friends. I know it’s still winter outside but I always love to start transitioning my wardrobe into Spring, the end of February. The sun has been shining all week giving me the itch to start purchasing for Spring essentials. Hints my post earlier this week about Spring shoes that I am adding to my wish list. The easiest way to do this and still dress warm enough for the weather outside is to start adding in some florals and lighter colors: mints, lilacs and yellows are a good way to start!

We Made it to Friday!

Happpppy Friday, Friends! You guys. I don’t want to jinx it but it is finally warming up here in Indianapolis. Yesterday was 58 degrees and it felt like a heat wave!  I know it’s February and all, but I am really hoping that this is a sign that Winter is coming to an end! (fingers crossed)  All this cold weather lately has made me just want to curl up inside under blankets with some hot cocoa. Over a week has passed and I am still sitting here reminiscing about our Vegas trip.

Luckily for me, I’m heading down south tomorrow to go to French Lick Resort with some of Jake’s friends from High school.  I am so excited for another getaway even if it is only for the night. Enjoy your weekend!
